Sea Turtles:

This week we have learned that sea turtles are very interesting sea animals. We found out that a sea turtle will travel for 20 years before having babies. We also found that a sea turtle goes back to the same beach it was born when laying eggs. Here are our 3 questions:

1. How many eggs can a sea turtle lay at one time?

2. Do sea turtles have a backbone or is their shell the backbone?

3. How long does a sea turtle live?

If you have any interesting facts, pictures, stories, details, or websites to share about sea turtles please share under our comments!

  4. My class really enjoyed reading your blog. They want to know if sea turtles can really travel faster in the ocean current like the do in the movies Finding Nemo and Octanauts. Can you help us?

  5. From what I gather, sea turtles that are able to catch the ocean's current can actually get in the current and use less of their own energy by "riding the current." The current usually moves so fast that they can, in fact, go a greater distance using less energy. :) Hope this helps!

  9. My classes enjoy tracking the sea turtles online at the following website http://www.seaturtle.org/tracking/

One of my favorite things to teach about sea turtles is how to help protect them. One of the most harmful things is LIGHT! Light from houses and cities can be harmful. Can you guess why?

See if you can find out!
