Welcome back!
A brand new school year is starting up in Ms. Race's class with all new students! We are so excited to share with you some new questions, ideas, and adventures. At Dover Elementary our mascot is the Dover Pirate, so this week we read some of David Shannon's books all about Pirates. Guess what we learned, our pirates are totally different then Mr. Shannon's pirates!
We brush our teeth...his pirates have green teeth!
We all take a bath everyday....his pirates don't take baths at all!
We wear and change our socks...his pirates don't even wear socks!
We change our clothes all the time..his pirates wear the same thing day after day!
Some of us have to change our little sisters' and brothers' diapers....his pirates don't even know where to begin!
We talk like normal people...his pirates have their own pirate language!
We live on land....his pirates live in a ship in the big ol' ocean!
We read books and bedtime stories...his pirates don't read at all!
We did however learn that his pirates just like us.....GO TO SCHOOL!
Do you have any cool pirate books or pirate stories to share with us?
I love the book Pirates by John Matthews and I love Piratology. I also like the book Do Pirates Take Baths? You can borrow them if you’d like.
ReplyDeleteI'm proud of you boys and girls for learning all about our mascot. It's great to be a pirate! Arggg!

Yo, Ho, Ho!
ReplyDeleteSome of my favorite book characters are pirates ... adventurous, humorous, or scurvy! Soon I will be teaching you second graders how to find books by subject - even pirate books using the computers in the library. In the meantime, because of your interest in pirates, I will choose some pirate books from the library collection and create a display to make it easy for you to find them. I hope you'll enjoy reading and learning about PIRATES.
See you in the library ~

Hi Ms. Race and students!
ReplyDeleteI have some interesting information about your Pirate Mascot! My sister, Brandy, was the very first pirate Mascot for the great school of Dover! (She brushed her teeth daily too!) The cool thing about her is that while she was the Pirate Mascot, she did well in school and went to college and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She is now a Registered Nurse! Who knew Pirates could be so intelligent?! That deserves a good, hearty "arggg!"
-Amanda Middleton
Thank you Mrs. Amanda, Mr. Daniels, Ms. Jones, and Mrs. Shatwell. We love hearing your great pirate stories. Hmm...maybe since Mrs. Amanda's sister was so intelligent we will get to share great stories in our future about how far we go in our lives! Some of us will maybe be a pirate teacher, doctor, vet, or who knows much much more! Thanks again for sharing and we hope you will continue to share!
ReplyDeleteThis school year is going to be fun for you new second graders. I was in Mrs.Races class last year and I loved her so have fun!!!!
